{"id":946,"date":"2020-04-07T11:23:19","date_gmt":"2020-04-07T15:23:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/lits\/?page_id=946"},"modified":"2023-01-25T12:41:00","modified_gmt":"2023-01-25T17:41:00","slug":"mobiledevice","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/lits\/technology\/tech-support\/email\/mobiledevice\/","title":{"rendered":"Mobile Device Password"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ms-rteThemeFontFace-2\"><strong>Passwords on Smart Phones and Tablets Using ActiveSync<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cell phones and tablets which synchronize e-mail and calendar events with the college\u2019s O365 Exchange server use a feature called ActiveSync in order to perform this function.\u00a0 ActiveSync provides the user with access to server-based e-mail, the calendar and the address book (to find contact information for Trinity e-mail users).<\/p>\n<p>In order to safeguard access to this potentially sensitive information, all staff and faculty phones and tablets configured to use ActiveSync will have certain security options enabled.\u00a0 These are having a PIN and Auto-Lock.\u00a0 It is particularly important that users of such devices be familiar with the following details.<\/p>\n<p>(We recommend all phone users set a password, even if they\u2019re not using ActiveSync.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"ms-rteThemeFontFace-2\"><strong>PIN<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A PIN is a numerical password set on the phone that prevents unauthorized access.\u00a0 Functioning similarly to a password on a computer, it needs to be entered on the device before it can be used.\u00a0\u00a0 (Making an emergency call on a smartphone is always possible, even without entering the PIN.)<\/p>\n<p>The PIN must be a minimum of four numbers long.\u00a0 Users need to select PINs that will be remembered without the need to write it down, yet be complex enough to avoid successful guessing.\u00a0\u00a0Avoid repeating a single digit as in 7777, or common sequences such as\u00a01234,\u00a0or 2468.<\/p>\n<p>To set a PIN on a smartphone, follow these directions:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Apple iOS:\u00a0 Click on\u00a0<strong>Settings<\/strong>\u00a0and select\u00a0<strong>General<\/strong>.\u00a0 Scroll down and select\u00a0<strong>Passcode Lock<\/strong>.\u00a0 Select\u00a0<strong>Turn Passcode On<\/strong>, and enter a four-digit passcode.\u00a0 Re-type the passcode to confirm.<\/p>\n<p>Android:\u00a0 [Android menus options\u00a0vary slightly, so the entries may not be exactly what is identified here.]\u00a0 From the home screen, click the menu button and select\u00a0<strong>Settings<\/strong>.\u00a0 Select\u00a0<strong>Security<\/strong>\u00a0(sometimes named\u00a0Location &amp;
