This is all part of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Domain_Name_System\">Domain Name System<\/a>\u00a0that governs how internet servers talk with one another. However, as we\u2019ll see elsewhere in the documentation, you can buy any available domain name you want and point it at your Trinity Domains subdomain.]<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For your first time signing in: go to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/domains.trincoll.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/domains.trincoll.edu<\/a>\u00a0and click either the Get Started or Dashboard buttons.<\/li>\n<li>You\u2019ll be presented with a login screen: use your normal Trinity username and password.<\/li>\n<li>If it\u2019s your first time doing logging in, you will be invited to choose your subdomain.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Meet Your cPannel<\/h2>\n<article class=\"post-entry post-entry-type-page post-entry-311\">\n<div class=\"entry-content-wrapper clearfix\">\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>When you\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/domains.trincoll.edu\/dashboard\/\">log into Domains<\/a>\u00a0with your Trinity credentials, you are taken to an interface that lets you manage multiple aspects of your web space, including applications, files, security settings, access logs, user accounts, and more. This interface, which is widely used by web hosts, is called cPanel.<\/p>\n<p>Because cPanel is designed to manage so many different things, it might look overwhelming. Don\u2019t worry! For most users, only the Applications section at the top is important. Some of the other sections will be covered in Advanced Use of Domains.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a class=\"lightbox-added\" href=\"https:\/\/domains.trincoll.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/CPanelPicture1.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-312\" src=\"https:\/\/domains.trincoll.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/CPanelPicture1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"936\" height=\"194\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<h2>Installatron<\/h2>\n<article class=\"post-entry post-entry-type-page post-entry-321\">\n<div class=\"entry-content-wrapper clearfix\">\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>The top section of cPanel, Applications, allows you to install new applications on your site, as well as to access and configure applications that you\u2019ve already installed. All applications that you\u2019ve installed are found under the My Apps icon.<\/p>\n<p>Applications, such as WordPress, Omeka and Scalar, are installed and managed through a feature called the Installatron. When you install a new instance of WordPress, the interface looks like this:<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a class=\"lightbox-added\" href=\"https:\/\/domains.trincoll.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/InstallatronPicture1.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-323\" src=\"https:\/\/domains.trincoll.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/InstallatronPicture1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"936\" height=\"274\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>When you look under\u00a0<strong>My Apps\u00a0<\/strong>after installing an instance of WordPress, you\u2019ll see an interface like this:<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a class=\"lightbox-added\" href=\"https:\/\/domains.trincoll.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/InstallatronPicture2.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-324\" src=\"https:\/\/domains.trincoll.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/InstallatronPicture2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"936\" height=\"410\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>If you click the WordPress icon that appears right under the\u00a0<strong>Applications<\/strong>\u00a0label, you will begin the process of installing a new instance of WordPress. Make sure that you click on My Apps instead if you want to work with an existing WordPress installation. To access the WordPress dashboard, click on the link that ends with \u2018wp-admin.\u2019<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a class=\"lightbox-added\" href=\"https:\/\/domains.trincoll.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/InstallatronPicture3.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-325\" src=\"https:\/\/domains.trincoll.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/InstallatronPicture3.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"936\" height=\"196\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<footer class=\"entry-footer\"><\/footer>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<p>To learn more about some of these apps, see a small sample of Trinity examples in our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/lits\/digital-scholarship\/applications-showcase\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Application Showcase<\/a>.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"sidebar sidebar_right alpha units\" role=\"complementary\">\n<div class=\"inner_sidebar extralight-border\">\n<nav class=\"widget widget_nav_menu widget_nav_hide_child\">\n<h2>House Keeping<\/h2>\n<article class=\"post-entry post-entry-type-page post-entry-332\">\n<div class=\"entry-content-wrapper clearfix\">\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Backups<\/h4>\n<p>It is important to set a backup schedule for each of your domains sites so that you will not lose work and information if a process or upgrade fails. In addition, a schedule will guarantee that you will not exceed your site quota. You can set your backup schedule during installation, or after the site is established as described below.<\/p>\n<p>To access the settings for your domain, go to My Apps from the Cpanel interface, and this will take you to the Installatron page with a listing of all your installed applications (this could be just one or many). To the right of each application, you will see 4 icons as shown in the figure below.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-large\"><a class=\"lightbox-added\" href=\"https:\/\/domains.trincoll.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/HousekeepingPicture1.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-335\" src=\"https:\/\/domains.trincoll.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/HousekeepingPicture1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"266\" height=\"122\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>wrench = view\/edit details<\/li>\n<li>right-facing arrow = create a backup archive<\/li>\n<li>branched arrow = clone the site<\/li>\n<li>X = uninstall the site, which will delete all\u00a0files and directories\u00a0and\u00a0databases and tables\u00a0associated with the installed software and cannot be reversed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Click on the wrench to view\/edit details, and then scroll to the bottom of the page. Within the Automatic Backup section, choose the frequency that would work best for your site. For example, if you edit your site daily, you would want to make sure you include a daily backup. Alternatively, if you work in your site infrequently a monthly backup schedule would work fine. After you have selected your backup schedule, click \u2018Save All\u2019 in the bottom right.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a class=\"lightbox-added\" href=\"https:\/\/domains.trincoll.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/HousekeepingPicture2.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-336\" src=\"https:\/\/domains.trincoll.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/HousekeepingPicture2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"876\" height=\"286\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>To view your backups and optionally remove older backups to save space, click on the My Backups tab at the top of the Installatron page. Here you can delete backups, download them for off-site safety or restore them.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Security<\/h4>\n<p>If you want people to be able to visit your website, it\u2019s important to set up HTTPS. Using HTTPS instead of HTTP provides a layer of security, and most web browsers will display warnings to visitors if your site uses HTTP.<\/p>\n<p>Domains uses Lets Encrypt SSL as a free way to set up HTTPS, and it manages most of the work for you by default. All you have to do is visit the Domains link under the Domains area of the dashboard.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><a class=\"lightbox-added\" href=\"https:\/\/domains.trincoll.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/SecurityPicture3A.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-392\" src=\"https:\/\/domains.trincoll.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/SecurityPicture3A.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"230\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Set the slider for Force HTTPS Redirect to \u201cOn.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><a class=\"lightbox-added\" href=\"https:\/\/domains.trincoll.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/SecurityPicture4.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-388\" src=\"https:\/\/domains.trincoll.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/SecurityPicture4.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"278\" height=\"175\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>Some applications you install on Domains, such as WordPress, require an option to be set internally, as well. For a WordPress installation, go to the WordPress Dashboard and look under Settings -&gt; General.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><a class=\"lightbox-added\" href=\"https:\/\/domains.trincoll.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/SecurityPicture5.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-389\" src=\"https:\/\/domains.trincoll.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/SecurityPicture5.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"525\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Check the fields WordPress Address (URL) and Site Address (URL).
