{"id":10671,"date":"2026-01-13T17:32:23","date_gmt":"2026-01-13T22:32:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/lits\/digital-scholarship\/moodle\/adding-a-resource\/"},"modified":"2026-01-13T17:32:47","modified_gmt":"2026-01-13T22:32:47","slug":"adding-a-resource","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/lits\/digital-scholarship\/moodle\/adding-a-resource\/","title":{"rendered":"Adding a Resource"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A <em>resource<\/em> is a digital item, such as a file or a link, that a teacher can use to support learning and assessment. \u00a0A wide range of resource types are supported in Moodle and are shown in the figure to the right.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/moodle\/files\/2023\/05\/add_an_activity-3.bmp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1932 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/moodle\/files\/2023\/05\/add_an_activity-3.bmp\" alt=\"\" width=\"876\" height=\"141\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Resources are added to a course section during an editing session using the &#8220;+Add an activity or resource&#8221; button. \u00a0Note that more than one resource can be added to a section.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Commonly-used resources include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Book<\/em> &#8211; multi-page resources with a book-like format<\/li>\n<li><em>File<\/em> &#8211; a picture, pdf document, spreadsheet, or media (sound or video) digital file<\/li>\n<li><em>Folder<\/em> &#8211; used to organize files and even other folders<\/li>\n<li><em>Label\u00a0<\/em> &#8211; displayed words or images that can be used to separate activities and resources within a section<\/li>\n<li><em>Page<\/em> &#8211; a screen created by the teacher with HTML<\/li>\n<li><em>URL<\/em> &#8211; active link to web resources<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/moodle\/files\/2023\/05\/addresources.bmp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1934 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/moodle\/files\/2023\/05\/addresources.bmp\" alt=\"\" width=\"510\" height=\"353\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To delete a resource, make sure that the editing mode is on. Click on the three dots located on the right side of the resource to display a set of options, and then click &#8220;Delete&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/moodle\/files\/2023\/05\/delete-option-2.bmp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1936 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/moodle\/files\/2023\/05\/delete-option-2.bmp\" alt=\"\" width=\"261\" height=\"288\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Then you will need to confirm this deletion.<\/p>\n<p>If you decide that the resource was deleted by mistake, you can restore it by going to &#8220;More&#8221; settings from the horizontal navigation menu and selecting &#8220;Recycle bin&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/moodle\/files\/2013\/12\/Screen-Shot-2021-01-04-at-7.34.57-PM.png\"><br \/>\n<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/moodle\/files\/2023\/05\/recycle-bin-1.bmp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1937 size-full aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/moodle\/files\/2023\/05\/recycle-bin-1.bmp\" alt=\"\" width=\"833\" height=\"350\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Please note that it might take a couple of minutes after the deletion of the resource for the Recycle Bin to appear. The contents of Recycle Bin get erased after 7 days since the deletion of the resource.<\/p>\n<p>In the Recycle Bin section, you will see any recently deleted resources or activities.
