The emergence and rapid growth of generative AI has caused many people to be wary of the technology and there are valid concerns (See this <a href=\"https:\/\/edtech.domains.trincoll.edu\/corncerns-regarding-ai\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/edtech.domains.trincoll.edu\/corncerns-regarding-ai\/\">post<\/a> on concerns). However, AI is a general-purpose tool already shaping many parts of people&#8217;s lives and will likely only increase its impact. As a result, we believe the technology is here to stay and through early adoption and experimentation, we can craft our use of AI in thoughtful ways that support well-rounded, efficient, and creative thinkers and expand the limits of what is possible. The current state of AI is evolving rapidly and it feels impossible to keep up or to know where to get started.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/aipedagogy.org\/\">The AI Pedagogy Project from the metaLAB (at) Harvard<\/a> focuses on &#8220;Creative and critical engagement with AI in education&#8221; and is a great place to learn about AI and explore pedagogical uses and implications. Another useful resource directly related to teaching and learning is<a href=\"http:\/\/edtech.domains.trincoll.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/AI-Tools-for-Education-and-Resources-for-Learning-About-AI.pdf\"> this document by Brandon Lee Henry at Washington State University.<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Other Trinity College Resources<\/h3>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/moodle.trincoll.edu\/course\/view.php?id=11746\">Learn about the fundamentals of AI with our self paced Moodle course<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Trinity-College-Guidelines-on-Artificial-Intelligence-Tools-4.3.25.pdf\">Trinity College Statement on the Use of Generative AI Tools<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/ctl\/generative-ai\/\">Center for Teaching and Learning resources<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/writing-center\/writing-center-2\/a-i-writing-and-effective-learning\/\">Writing Center Resources<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Some overarching concepts to keep in mind as you approach AI<\/h3>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Invite AI to the table<\/strong>\u2013 Try incorporating AI into the work you\u2019re doing to see where it can benefit you most. AI is constantly being used in new and innovative ways and the best way to figure out if something will work is to try!<\/li>\n<li><strong>Know your goals before you start<\/strong>\u2013 Have a clear idea of the product you want before interacting with AI. This can help you craft a better, more efficient prompt and keep you in the driver\u2019s seat. If the AI hasn\u2019t given you what you\u2019re looking for, tell it, but please do so politely (more on that later). This will also help keep you on track. If you are having AI create something for you that you don\u2019t understand, that might be a sign that you are misusing AI.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Start with a good prompt-<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/edtech.domains.trincoll.edu\/prompting-with-ai\/\">See our post on prompt engineering<\/a>. AI works best when you give it a persona or a role to play and a task to complete.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Treat it like an intern<\/strong>\u2013 Have boring or repetitive work that needs to get done? Want a fresh new take on something? Try asking AI to do it. However, under NO circumstances should that version be released without having a supervisor (you) look it over very carefully.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Never tell the AI sensitive information<\/strong>\u2013 AI is terrible at keeping secrets. It has no moral judgment and is programmed to incorporate data inputs into its knowledge base.
