Please check back as advising week approaches for updates on the upcoming Language Proficiency Exams.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>You <u>must<\/u> take the exam if you plan to continue studying a language you began in high school. The exam helps determine the appropriate course level for the next semester and which courses you need to complete the Second Language Requirement for graduation.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;ve already taken a language exam at Trinity, you don&#8217;t need to retake it. If you take it again, only your first score will count. To find your score and placement level please see your advising transcript.\u00a0 For questions about your score or placement,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/language-culture-studies\/second-language-requirement\/#TRIN-LANG-CONTACTS\"> click here to\u00a0 find the relevant language contact. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>For further details on fulfilling the requirement, see the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/language-culture-studies\/second-language-requirement\/\">Second Language Requirement.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Please contact <strong>Wendi Delaney<\/strong> with any questions: <a href=\"mailto:wendi.delaney@trincoll.edu\">wendi.delaney@trincoll.edu<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Who has to take the exam?<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Any student who studied a second language in high school, must take the exam for that language<\/li>\n<li>If you studied more than one language then you will need to take the exam for each language you studied<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>What are the exams used for? <\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Proper placement &#8211; The language exam will place you in to the correct level course if you choose to continue to study that language<\/li>\n<li>Fulfilling the Second Language Requirement \u2013 If you are placed in to level of 202 or higher your will have fulfilled the requirement<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>You will have fulfilled your language requirement if: <\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>you placed into a level of 202 or higher on the Trinity College\u2019s Language Placement Exam (the department of Language &amp; Culture Studies encourages you to continue to study that language or start a new one)<\/li>\n<li>Are an international student whose primary language is not English;<\/li>\n<li>Completed a minimum of one year of study at a secondary school at which the language of instruction was a language other than English, as certified by an official transcript from the school (usually submitted as part of the student\u2019s application for admission to Trinity);<\/li>\n<li>Provide the Registrar\u2019s Office with official certification that you have attained the indicated score for:\n<ul>\n<li>A foreign language on any of the following standardized tests:\n<ul>\n<li>SAT II (600 or above)<\/li>\n<li>Advanced Placement (4 or 5)<\/li>\n<li>International Baccalaureate Higher Level Examination (5, 6, or 7)<\/li>\n<li>United Kingdom \u201cA\u201d Level General Certificate Examination (grade of A, B, or C)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Any subject on the French Baccalaureate (12-20), German Abitur (7-15), or Swiss Matura (5 or 6)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Are a transfer or IDP student who has taken the appropriate college-level courses in a language other than English as an undergraduate student at another institution.
