Ecological Telecommunications of the Industrial Revolution ca. 1780-????

What did the hunting of East African elephants have to do with the manufacturing of pianos in Connecticut in the late nineteenth century? This and other “ecological teleconnections” or the connections between far-flung places across the globe established by the Industrial revolution are the subject of this lecture by John R. McNeill, former president of the American Historical Association, University Professor at Georgetown University, and a pioneering historian of the global environment.

John is the author of award-winning books such as Something New Under the Sun and Mosquito Empires.
