Peter S. Kraus ’74

Peter graduated from Trinity with a B.A in economics and earned his M.B.A. from New York University in 1975. His financial career is highlighted by an illustrious 22-year career with Goldman Sachs Group Inc. In December 2008, he was elected chairman and CEO of AllianceBernstein L.P., a research-driven asset management firm. In 2010, Peter was appointed a member of the Management Committee of AXA Financial, Inc. and its subsidiaries by Henri de Castries, AXA’s chairman and CEO.

Peter’s other board memberships reflect his varied interests — he has served as chairman of the Investment Committee of Trinity, chair of the Board of Overseers of CalArts, co-chair of the Friends of Carnegie International, a member of the Board of Directors of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, chairman of Lincoln Center’s Art Committee, a member of the Board of the Keewaydin Foundation, and a member of the National Board of Young Audiences, Inc., a nonprofit organization that works to provide arts education to children.

As a student, he was the two-time recipient of the Peter J. Schaefer Memorial Prize, a recipient of the Ferguson Prize, and a recipient of the Faculty of Economics Award. Peter remains an active and dedicated alumnus, serving as a Trustee of the College from 1998 to 2006, as a class agent in 2008, and on various reunion committees. Peter has been recognized for his involvement and generosity to the College with the Alumni Medal for Excellence in 2004, induction to the Wall of Honor in 2000, and the Eigenbrodt Cup in 2010.

In 2006 Peter established the Ward S. Curran ’57 Distinguished Professorship of Economics and in 2007 Peter and his wife, Jill established the Jill G. and Peter S. Kraus '74 Fund for Presidential Scholars.
