{"id":4877,"date":"2022-08-18T12:57:37","date_gmt":"2022-08-18T12:57:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/studyaway\/?page_id=4877"},"modified":"2026-08-27T17:22:59","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T17:22:59","slug":"semester","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/geo\/trinity-students-start-here\/semester\/","title":{"rendered":"Semester or Year-long"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Eligibility:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA, however many programs have higher GPA requirements.<\/li>\n<li>Students must be in good academic and social standing at Trinity College (before and during the global program).<\/li>\n<li>Students can spend a maximum of 3 semesters on one or more global programs.<\/li>\n<li>Students can study abroad or do US-Study during their sophomore, junior or senior year (final semester study abroad or US-Study requires additional approval from the Registrar&#8217;s Office).<\/li>\n<li>Transfer students are eligible to participate on global programs.<\/li>\n<li><strong>International Programs<\/strong>: Students must have a valid passport with an expiration date six months beyond the end date of the program. (Ex: If a program ends in December, a passport must be valid until the following June).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>IMPORTANT: Students are only able to apply to ONE program unless they are advised otherwise by the GEO.<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Requirements:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Students must enroll in a full semester of academic credit while on a global program.<\/li>\n<li>All courses must be in the liberal arts disciplines and approved by the relevant academic departments and Registrar&#8217;s Office. Students can-not take courses without approval.<\/li>\n<li>All courses and grades will appear on the student&#8217;s Trinity College transcript. Grades earned on a global program will calculate into the student&#8217;s Trinity College GPA.<\/li>\n<li>Students may only apply or request approval for one study abroad or US-study program for a specific semester. Students should not apply\u00a0 or request approval for multiple programs unless they are specifically advised to by the GEO to do so.<\/li>\n<li>Programs with internships: The internship must have an academic course attached to the experience to be considered for academic credit by the Registrar&#8217;s Office. Trinity College will not grant credit for the internship alone.<\/li>\n<li>HOUSING POLICY: Students are required to live in program or Trinity-sponsored housing as detailed in our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/geo\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/108\/2026\/05\/TC-GEO_Global-Programs-Housing-Policy_FINAL.20260512.pdf\">Housing Policy<\/a>. Independent housing is not permitted except in extraordinary circumstances.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>STEP 1: RESEARCH PROGRAMS<\/h2>\n<p class=\"_04xlpA direction-ltr align-start para-style-body\"><span class=\"JsGRdQ\">Selecting the right Global Program for you requires research, which can significantly impact your experience. Research will help you narrow down the options to one or two programs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"_04xlpA direction-ltr align-start para-style-body\"><strong><span class=\"JsGRdQ\">WHEN TO DO THIS:<\/span><\/strong> <span class=\"JsGRdQ\">Start early.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"JsGRdQ\">EX: If you plan to study abroad or do US-Study in the Fall of your junior year, research programs during the Fall semester of your sophomore year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"_04xlpA direction-ltr align-start para-style-body\"><strong><span class=\"JsGRdQ\">HOW TO DO THIS:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"JsGRdQ\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/geo\/trinity-programs\/semester\/\">BROWSE ALL SEMESTER-LONG GLOBAL PROGRAMS HERE<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Trinity Signature Programs<\/strong> are administered by Trinity College and include:\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/geo\/capetown\/\"> Trinity in Cape Town<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/geo\/trinitylamama\/\">Trinity\/LaMaMa Performing Arts<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/geo\/rome\/\">Trinity Rome Campus <\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/geo\/vienna\/\">Trinity in Vienna<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Affiliated Global Programs<\/strong> (AGPs) are not administered by Trinity College but are approved for Trinity students to attend.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Program Petitions<\/strong>: If a student is interested in a program NOT currently approved by the Global Engagement Office they must submit a program petition.
