\nThe Biomechanics of Ventricular Pumping:<\/p>\n

The human heart is a remarkable pump, whose biomechanical properties arise from its constituent heart muscle. Recent work developing biomechanical models of cardiac muscle and the left ventricle will be presented, linking muscle dynamics to ventricular pumping.<\/p>\n

\nCantonese Embroidery and Its Afterlives in Post-Mao China:<\/p>\n

Using<\/span> the<\/span> Cantonese<\/span> Embroidery<\/span> Association<\/span> in<\/span> South<\/span> China<\/span> as<\/span> a<\/span> case<\/span> study,<\/span> Shunyuan<\/span> Zhang<\/span> examines<\/span> cultural<\/span> governance<\/span> in<\/span> contemporary<\/span> China<\/span> under<\/span> the<\/span> Xi<\/span> Jinping<\/span> administration.<\/span> Focusing<\/span> on<\/span> elderly<\/span> women<\/span> embroiderers<\/span> and<\/span> their<\/span> evolving<\/span> relationship<\/span> with<\/span> this<\/span> traditional<\/span> art<\/span> form,<\/span> she<\/span> traces<\/span> the<\/span> rise<\/span> and<\/span> decline<\/span> of<\/span> the<\/span> association<\/span> and<\/span> explores<\/span> the<\/span> tensions<\/span> within<\/span> state<\/span> efforts<\/span> to<\/span> use<\/span> cultural<\/span> heritage<\/span> for<\/span> political<\/span> and<\/span> social<\/span> purposes.<\/span><\/p>\n
