{"id":38,"date":"2020-02-19T21:47:53","date_gmt":"2020-02-19T21:47:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/envs\/?page_id=38"},"modified":"2020-10-27T14:22:57","modified_gmt":"2020-10-27T14:22:57","slug":"available-instrumentation","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/envs\/available-instrumentation\/","title":{"rendered":"Available Instrumentation"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Chemistry<\/h2>\n<p><strong>PanAlytical X&#8217;PertPRO X-Ray Diffractometer (XRD)<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0\u00a0 XRD in combination with powerful analytical software (HighScore Plus) provides\u00a0 chemists, geologists and engineers with state of the art solid phase identification.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Milestone DMA-80 Total Mercury Analyzer (DMA-80)<\/strong> \u2013 Housed in the environmental science lab, the DMA-80 analyzes solid and liquid samples for total mercury to ppb levels.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ThermoScientific (Dionex) Ion Chromatography (ICS-1100) <\/strong>\u2013 In the fall 2012 we updated the IC and auto sampler in the environmental science lab.\u00a0 The IC-1100 is set up for major anions: (fluoride, chloride, nitrite, bromide, nitrate, phosphate and sulfate).\u00a0 For cations we use the ICP-OES in the Chemistry instrumentation lab.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Elementar <\/strong><strong>vario EL cube CNS analyzer<\/strong>\u00a0 to analyze C,N and S concentrations in sediment and soil samples.<\/p>\n<p>The Chemistry Department has an entire building full of instruments that are available for research. A list of equipment can be found <a href=\"http:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/chemistry\/instruments\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Geophysics<\/h2>\n<p><strong>AGICO JR6 Spinner Magnetometer<\/strong> &#8211; capable of measuring the magnetic remanence of rock specimen with a resolution up to 10<sup>-6<\/sup> A\/m.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AGICO KLY-4S Susceptibility Meter with CS3 Furnace and CL3 Cryostat Attachments<\/strong> &#8211; measures magnetic susceptibility of natural samples at room temperature and anywhere from -194\u2070C up to 700\u2070C.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AGICO MFK-2 Multi-function Kappabridge<\/strong> &#8211; measures magnetic susceptibility at various frequencies and anywhere from -194\u2070C up to 700\u2070C. Could also measure anisotropy of susceptibility\/<\/p>\n<p><strong>ZH Instruments SM 150H and SM 150L susceptibility meters<\/strong>, measure magnetic susceptibility at room temperature between 125 Hz to 512 kHz.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Princeton Measurements Coorporation MicroMag Model 3900 Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (<\/strong><strong>V<\/strong><strong>SM)<\/strong> &#8211; measures magnetic properties in magnetic fields up to 1.5 T.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Magnon International AFD300 Alternating Field Demagnetizer<\/strong> &#8211; allows for sample demagnetization and ARM acquisition in alternating foelds up to 300 mT<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sensors and Software PulseEKKO Pro Ground Penetrating Radar<\/strong> &#8211; with 50 MHz, 100 MHz and 200 MHz antennas and SandmeierReflexW interpretation software.<\/p>\n<p><strong>IRIS Instruments SYSCAL Junior Resistivity Meter<\/strong> &#8211; 2 Channel resistivity meter for resistivity and chargeability measurements<\/p>\n<p><strong>Geometrics Geode 24-channel seismograph<\/strong> &#8211; for seismic analyses of shallow subsurface structures<\/p>\n<p><strong>NEXT Generation Science EQ-1 Seismograph system<\/strong>.<br \/>\nHave a look at the data <a href=\"http:\/\/geoserver.iris.edu\/content\/tcct\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Various Equipment<\/h2>\n<p>Nikon NPL 352 total station and various surveying equipment<br \/>\nNumerous GPS instruments<br \/>\nCentrifuge<br \/>\nFreeze dryers<br \/>\nWrist-action shakers<br \/>\nMicroscopes<br \/>\nWalk-in cold storage<br \/>\nmore sampling equipment for all sorts of dirt than one could ever imagine<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Chemistry PanAlytical X&#8217;PertPRO X-Ray Diffractometer (XRD) &#8211;\u00a0\u00a0 XRD in combination with powerful analytical software (HighScore Plus) provides\u00a0 chemists, geologists and engineers with state of the art solid phase identification.
