Madeleine Thien<\/h4>\n

Wednesday, March 25th @ 4:30pm, Reese Room, Smith House<\/p>\n

Madeleine Thien<\/span> was born in Vancouver and lives in Montreal, Canada. She is the author of five books, including <\/span>Do Not Say We Have Nothing<\/span><\/em>, which was shortlisted for the Booker Prize, the Women\u2019s Prize for Fiction, and the Folio Prize, and won the 2016 Governor-General\u2019s Literary Award for Fiction. Her most recent novel, <\/span>The Book of Records<\/span><\/em> was named a book of the year by <\/span>Time, The New Yorker, The Guardian<\/span><\/em>, and The New York Public Library, included on President Obama\u2019s list of favourite books of 2025, and longlisted for the National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction and The Climate Fiction Prize 2026. Madeleine\u2019s novels have been translated into twenty-seven languages, and her essays and stories can be found in <\/span>The New Yorker, Granta, Times Literary Supplement, The New York Review of Books,<\/span><\/em> and elsewhere. Since 2018, she has been teaching in the MFA Program at Brooklyn College at The City University of New York.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dawn Lundy Martin<\/span> is an American poet, essayist, and memoirist. She is the author of five books of poems: <\/span>Instructions for The Lovers<\/span><\/em>,<\/em> a 2024 finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award; <\/span>Good Stock Strange Blood<\/span><\/em>, winner of the 2019 Kingsley Tufts Award for Poetry; <\/span>Life in a Box is a Pretty Life<\/span><\/em>,<\/em> which won the Lambda Literary Award for Lesbian Poetry; <\/span>DISCIPLINE<\/span>; and, <\/span>A Gathering of Matter \/ A Matter of Gathering<\/span><\/em>. Her nonfiction can be found in <\/span>n+1<\/span>, <\/span><\/em>The New Yorker, Ploughshares, Chicago Review<\/em>, and Best American Essays 2019, 2021,<\/em><\/span> and <\/span>2026<\/span><\/em>.<\/em> Martin was a 2022 United States Artist Fellow, the inaugural Toi Derricotte Endowed Chair in English at the University of Pittsburgh, and the founding Director of the Center for African American Poetry and Poetics. Currently, she is Professor & Distinguished Writer in Residence at Bard College and is writing a memoir, <\/span>When a Person Goes Missing<\/em>,<\/span> forthcoming from Pantheon Books.<\/span><\/p>\n

Emily Raboteau<\/h4>\n

Emily Raboteau <\/span>writes at the intersection of social and environmental justice, race, climate change, and public art. Her latest book,<\/span> Lessons for Survival<\/span><\/em>, was a finalist for the Anisfield-Wolf Book Award, the Brooklyn Public Library Book Prize, and the ASLE Book Award. A contributing editor at <\/span>Orion Magazine <\/span><\/em>and a regular contributor to the <\/span>New York Review of Books<\/span><\/em>, her work on the climate crisis has appeared in <\/span>The Atlantic, The Nation, New York Magazine,<\/span><\/em> and <\/span>Best American Science and Nature Writing<\/em>.<\/span> She is a full professor in the Black Studies Department at the City College of New York and lives in the Bronx.<\/span><\/p>\n
