Approval is dependent both on the individual instructor\u2019s agreement and decision by the Academic Affairs Committee (AAC). Typically, non-completion of coursework for an Incomplete by the date due will result in conversion of the \u201cIN\u201d to a failing grade.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An Incomplete is not intended for falling behind on work and\/or not doing well in a course.<\/li>\n<li>Note that a separate form must be completed for each course for which you are asking for an Incomplete.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Student Instructions<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/forms.trincoll.edu\/aac-petition\/request-for-incomplete\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here to fill in the online Request for Incomplete form<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Submit this petition form by the appropriate deadline<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Spring 2026 Semester Courses Petition Deadline: 11:59 p.m., Wednesday, April 29, 2026.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Complete all parts of the form and select the instructor of the course and your adviser from the dropdown menu.<\/li>\n<li>Send your supporting documentation to <a href=\"mailto:DOSO@trincoll.edu\">DOSO@trincoll.edu<\/a> via email, with \u201cRequest for Incomplete\u201d and your name in the subject line.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Faculty Instructions<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Review the form submitted by the student<\/li>\n<li>Answer the questions regarding the student&#8217;s attendance and progress in the course<\/li>\n<li>Detail the amount of work remaining and how much time is needed to complete the outstanding work<\/li>\n<li>Assign a due date<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You may add additional comments for the committee in a free form text box.<\/p>\n<h3>Process<\/h3>\n<p>If approved by the AAC, a course &#8220;Incomplete\u201d is a temporary placeholder of a grade until the due date.\u00a0 (If the coursework is not completed by the due-date, the temporary Incomplete will convert to an F).\u00a0 The student should stay in communication with their instructor about the coursework and timeline.<\/p>\n<p>An instructor cannot just submit a \u201cgrade\u201d of \u201cIN\u201d. The notation can only be done via an AAC approved course Incomplete petition.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Please Note<\/strong>: This process is different from the temporary COVID practice. We are now back to the normal process for course Incompletes, which is processed through the AAC.<\/p>\n<p>General steps to petition for an Incomplete:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If the student meets the conditions for a possible Incomplete as described above<\/li>\n<li>If a professor is willing to allow an extension given the parameters of the course<\/li>\n<li>The student may submit a petition to the AAC for a possible Incomplete using the link above<\/li>\n<li>If the AAC approves an Incomplete,\u00a0students are strongly encouraged to finish the coursework as soon as possible\u00a0while things remain as fresh, so they do not carry the workload into the new semester.\u00a0Work for an Incomplete must be finished by the due date.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Overview A course Incomplete (IN) is a transcript notation for a temporary extension.
