What holds you back? How do you know when what you\u2019ve got is in its best possible shape? What should you be looking for in your work? What will a publisher be looking for in your work?\u00a0 The goal of this practical workshop is to focus on strengthening your own work in progress and to build confidence in your ability to get to your goal: being published and sharing your work with the world.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cooper.edu\/humanities\/people\/william-germano\">William Germano<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>is professor of English and former dean of humanities and social sciences at Cooper Union in New York City. Before joining Cooper Union, he served as editor-in-chief at Columbia University Press and, as vice-president and editorial director at Routledge. He is the author of four books on writing and teaching:\u00a0<strong><em>Getting It Published, From Dissertation to Book, On Revision<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(all from Chicago UP) and, with Kit Nicholls,\u00a0<strong><em>Syllabu<\/em>s<\/strong>(Princeton UP).<\/p>\n<p>Participants are requested to submit one month in advance of the session a proposal (not more than ten pages, please) for the work in progress. The human consequence of such stress and trauma can contribute to significant burnout as well as impaired learning and workforce challenges. The Counseling and Wellness Center and the Offices of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and the Dean of Faculty are collaborating to offer faculty and staff this workshop. <strong>Dr. Javeed Sukhera<\/strong> is the Chair of Psychiatry at the Institute of Living (IOL) and Chief of Psychiatry at Hartford Hospital, will outline several key aspects of a healing centered approach to working in higher education. A healing centered approach emphasizes the role of community, cultural authenticity, and self-knowledge to advance healing while foregrounding strength, resistance, and radical hope.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Sukhera is the Founding Director of the Center for Research on Racial Trauma and Community Healing. He is an internationally recognized health professions education researcher and thought leader. It also provides valuable tools for anyone seeking to build a case for something new (new book, new business, new policy, new idea, etc.). It is 100 percent virtual and typically takes place over two days.
