{"id":2301,"date":"2023-07-10T15:38:04","date_gmt":"2023-07-10T15:38:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/cher\/?page_id=2301"},"modified":"2023-07-10T15:38:04","modified_gmt":"2023-07-10T15:38:04","slug":"our-story","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/cher\/trinfo-cafe\/our-story\/","title":{"rendered":"Our Story"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><strong>Founded to Bridge the Digital Divide<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p class=\"x_contentpasted5\"><span data-ogsc=\"black\">Trinfo.Cafe\u00a0<\/span>was founded in 1999 to address the digital divide by broadening access to the internet and tech skills for Trinity College\u2019s neighbors.<span data-ogsc=\"black\">\u00a0As the needs of the Hartford community have changed and the internet became accessible from mobile devices,\u00a0<\/span>Trinfo<span data-ogsc=\"black\">\u00a0pivoted away from providing computer literacy classes to a help-desk model.\u00a0<\/span>Today, p<span data-ogsc=\"black\">atrons can come in with specific tech questions<\/span>\u00a0or document service needs<span data-ogsc=\"black\">\u00a0and one of our student staff can assist.<\/span>\u00a0Trinfo also broadened its mission, serving as a neighborhood gathering space and community garden that connect Hartford residents with Trinity students, staff, and faculty.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_contentpasted5\">Over the years,\u00a0<span data-ogsc=\"black\">Trinfo.Caf\u00e9<\/span>\u00a0has built on a history of Trinity\u2019s efforts to address the digital divide in Hartford. T<span data-ogsc=\"black\">he Trinity Information Exchange (TIE) was created in 1996 to connect arts and educational organizations.<\/span>\u00a0<span data-ogsc=\"black\">TIE provided internet and email support as well as computer literacy training for local non-profits. Trinity students helped these organizations develop computer skills and websites. TIE also participated in the Hartford Housing Authority\u2019s \u201cCampus of Learners\u201d initiative, which provided IT support to Hartford residents in subsidized housing.\u00a0<\/span>When\u00a0<span data-ogsc=\"black\">Trinfo.Caf\u00e9<\/span>\u00a0was founded in 1999, it built on this programming and expanded tech skill course offerings for children and adults.\u00a0<span data-ogsc=\"black\">To view past curriculum and literacy programs, click here.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Trinfo has adapted over the years to address neighboring residents\u2019 evolving needs.
