They employ techniques from mathematics and physics and have applications in all of the sciences\u00a0and engineering. The chemistry degree is typically viewed as having five major areas: analytical, biological, inorganic, organic, and physical. The chemistry major at Trinity is structured to provide a balanced presentation of these areas. The biochemistry degree is also structured to focus on learning in these areas but also emphasizes the biological sciences and biological chemistry.The department prides itself on a personal approach to learning; they offer small classes where you get to know your professor and your professor gets to know you. Students are encouraged to undertake research\u2014both during the academic year and the summer months\u2014and can start as early as their first year at Trinity. The department also possesses and operates an impressive collection of modern instruments for chemical analysis, and our students get hands-on experience with these instruments in their courses and in their research.<\/p>\n<p>A major in chemistry or biochemistry can lead to a variety of careers besides research. These include the health professions, teaching, law, business, and management.
