Career Coaching Appointments

Career Development offers one-on-one scheduled career coaching appointments with professional career coaches. Students and alumni will be coached through the career exploration and planning process and given necessary resources and connections to successfully implement their goals.

Our appointments are:

  • Student-led. You are the expert on you, we are here to help you explore, design, and build your career.
  • Action-oriented. You will co-create action steps with your career coach that you can complete between appointments to achieve your goals.
  • Outcomes-oriented. You will be able to define your appointment goals with your career coach to ensure each appointment is focused and addresses your needs.
  • Based on Design Thinking methodology. You will have the opportunity to build lifelong career design skills by learning Design Thinking concepts and participating in reflective and exploratory activities.

  • Log into Handshake
  • Click on “Career Center” tab
  • Select “Appointments”
  • Click on “Schedule a New Appointment”
  • Select your category and topic
  • Choose an available appointment that works with your schedule
  • Select the appointment “medium” – in person, phone, or web conference – and add a note on what you would like to discuss

Career Studio

Career Development hosts daily drop in “Career Studios” led by highly training Career Development Interns (CDIs) to answer career questions and provide a space for guided career planning. You can pop in with a quick question or stay for an hour or more while working on your career materials or applying to positions.

Questions you can ask at the Studio include:

  • How do I write résumé bullet points?
  • How do I write a cover letter?
  • How do I prepare for an interview?
  • How do I start my internship or job search?
  • How do I use Handshake?
  • How do I make a LinkedIn profile?

Meet the Career Development Interns.

Pre-Health Advising

Heather Hodge, the assistant director for career and personal preparation, offers workshops and programs throughout the year to provide information about various health professions and to educate students about the processes and timelines for applying to health professions schools. In collaboration with the Health Professions Advising Committee (HPAC), she also offers individual advising to those in the early planning stages as well as to those in the process of applying.

Advising Services Offered:

  • Guidance on how to prepare for your intended health profession
  • Assistance in gaining shadowing/medically-related experiences
  • Help with applications, including letters of recommendation and personal statements
  • Interview preparation

Pre-Law Advising

Tracy Evans-Moyer, Esq. offers workshops and programs throughout the year to provide information about the law school application process and educate students and alumni about the types of careers available to students that pursue a law degree.  She also offers individual advising to students and alumni in the early planning/exploratory stage and throughout the law school application process.

Advising services offered:

  • Guidance on how to prepare for law school and the application process
  • Coaching to provide the skills for searching for internship experiences in the legal field
  • Assistance with applications, including resume and personal statement critiques
  • Interview preparation
