Why You Chose Trinity:
I was and am still a huge fan of Model United Nations. I really would like to explore Political Science and International Studies during my high school and that is one of the reasons why I preferred Trinity. Also, coming from a country where the education system is predominantly public, I was definitely also looking for small student-to-faculty ratio in my research of colleges. However, I was also drawn by the urban location of Trinity and its proximity to both New York and Boston.
Favorite Class:
My favorite class that I have ever taken at Trinity is my first year seminar called Understanding the Race Philosophically. It was eye-opening to an international student like me while my advisor at that time Professor Wade walked me through racism and anti-semitism historically in the United States, but also from a perspective of philosophy.
Favorite Professor:
My favorite professor is Professor Xiangming Chen, who is also my advisor. He has been guiding and helping me throughout my first three years at Trinity! Although I could not make it back to Trinity for the spring 2020 semester, Professor Chen connected me with Nanjing University, a prestigious local university, where I took two Urban Studies related courses.
Extracurricular Activities:
I was the Saturday Night Manager of Cinestudio during my first semester, while I also was the International Body Liaison of AASA. During my second year of Trinity, I became faculty outreach of I-House and event coordinator of Trinity Homelessness Panel. I am also a sibling of Cleo AX. When I was studying away in Copenhagen, I was the language table host for Studenterhuset(the Student House).
What You Love Most About Trinity:
I love the relationships between professors and students at Trinity. The college has such a small student to faculty ratio that really stands out from other colleges. At the same time, students can refer to their professors for research opportunities!
Your Professional Goals/Career Plans:
At this point of my life, I am still quite flexible about my future career paths. However, I do have several fields of great interest, namely urban planning with strong emphasis on sustainability and teaching.
Favorite Place on Campus:
My favorite place on campus is Peter B’s on the Level A of Trinity library! Perfect spot for a refreshing cup of Americano and hanging out with friends.
Favorite Place in Hartford:
Bushnell Park, since it is always relaxing to take a walk in the park and get some fresh air!
What’s the most impactful/favorite book you’ve ever read?
The most impactful book series that I have ever read is the Three-Body Problem by Chinese author Cixin Liu. It is a science fiction series of novels that refer to the three-body problems in orbital mechanics! This is such a wonderful and adventurous novel series that I encourage people to read as they are also offered in English version!
What advice do you have for prospective students applying to college?
I would like to suggest to prospective students that they should really explore Trinity’s resources, especially through websites like Handshake and Bantam Career Network. It is a really tough time for both domestic and international students, but Trinity is willing and able to support you!
What’s one thing you wish you knew before coming to college?
I wish I knew more about how the overall experience of transition from a Chinese high school to college is before coming to college. Thanks to various resources on campus, like the Office of Internation Students and Scholars, the Center for Student Success and Career Development, and the many different Cultural Houses, my transition was not one of the toughest!
