Trinity’s Third Annual Giving Day Raises More Than $2.4 Million and Exceeds All Goals

Most Successful One to Date

Hartford, Connecticut, May 18, 2016 – Trinity College’s third annual Giving Day on April 20, 2016, was a resounding success, raising $2,401,209 for the Trinity College Fund. During the month of April, this comprehensive fundraising event exceeded both its monetary and participation goals, thanks to the loyalty and generosity of 2,313 alumni, parents, students, faculty and staff members, and friends worldwide. Trinity surpassed its goals of $2.25 million, 2,250 donors, and 225 new Long Walk Societies members. Since launching in 2014, Giving Day has raised more than $6.5 million.

During the month of April, Bantams across the globe celebrated the exceptional learning and teaching that are taking place at Trinity ― inside the classroom, in the city of Hartford, and around the world.

Bantams reconnected over social media using the hashtags #AllinforTrin and #trincoll, sharing fond memories of Trinity and encouraging others to contribute. The College received alumni tweets and postings from as far away as Cambodia. The campaign’s website tracked progress throughout the day in a real-time leaderboard. At a Giving Day fair on campus, students enjoyed refreshments, wrote personal thank-you cards to donors, had their photos taken with the Bantam mascot, entered for a chance to win Bantam merchandise, and received Bantam tattoos.

The campaign’s success was attributed not only to the Bantam spirit and pride that were evident but also to the countless volunteers, including class agents who rallied support. Social media ambassadors called Super Bantams posted photos and messages through SocialToaster, and a phonathon staffed by more than 20 parents, students, and alumni was held in New York City.

Additionally, a group of Chair’s Circle donors issued a Bantam Leaders Challenge. Each time a Giving Day donor goal was achieved (1,250, 1,823 ― the year Trinity College was founded, and 2,250), $200,000 was released. A total of $600,000 was contributed by these donors.

“This year’s Giving Day was the most successful one to date,” said Bill Knapp, director of annual giving. “I am very pleased to see the level of support from the Trinity College community. Their generosity speaks volumes to their love of and commitment to this institution.”

Trinity Fund gifts received from April 1 to April 30 were counted in the Giving Day totals. During May and June, annual giving staff and volunteers are gearing up to achieve fiscal year-end goals by June 30. Reunion giving provides a critical fundraising boost in the weeks leading up to Reunion Weekend, which will be held June 10-12.
