Kress Collection and Guitarist Yovianna García Highlight Semester at Austin Arts

Music, Theater, Dance, and Visual Arts Fill Fall Calendar

Hartford, CT, September 10, 2014 – Into the Light, an exhibition of paintings from the Kress Collection at Trinity College, and a performance and Common Hour discussion by Puerto Rican guitarist Yovianna García are among the highlights of an exciting semester at the Austin Arts Center. Tickets to most events are free, and all are open to the public.

On September 18, Yovianna García will take part in a Common Hour discussion with Luis Figueroa, associate professor of history, and Dan Román, assistant professor of music, about the culture, politics, and history surrounding the music of Puerto Rico. That evening, García will perform at 7:30 p.m. in the Austin Arts Center’s Goodwin Theater.

The following week, Into the Light opens in the Austin Arts Center’s Widener Gallery, celebrating the conservation of four Italian Old Master paintings by the Samuel H. Kress Foundation. The paintings, donated by the Foundation to Trinity College, are being exhibited on campus for the first time in many years. An opening reception will take place on September 23 at 4:30 p.m. The exhibit runs until October 26.
