Trinity’s Bonnie Edmondson Named to Team USA Track and Field Staff for Olympics

Local Media Reports Highlight the Assistant Coach’s Road to Rio de Janeiro

​Hartford, Connecticut, August 5, 2016 – Trinity College assistant men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field coach Bonnie Edmondson has been selected by USA Track & Field as an assistant coach for Team USA in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Edmonson will work with the throwers on the women’s team.

Edmondson's road to the Olympics was featured in an article in the Hartford Courant this week. She is also interviewed in this video. The Olympics open in Rio on Friday, August 5.

NBC CT’s Kevin Nathan posted a video about Edmondson on his Facebook page on July 19. Edmondson was also featured in the Hartford Courant last October.

Edmonson, a two-time national champion in the hammer throw, recently concluded her fourth season as an assistant coach at Trinity. As an athlete, she was ranked as high as No. 10 in the world and was ranked in the top five in the United States in the women’s hammer throw from 1990 to 1996.

She has coached at all levels, including high school, college, and with Team USA. An assistant coach at the 1998 World Junior Championships, Edmondson was later the Team USA throwing events coach at the 2012 and 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships. Edmondson mentored 2015 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) hammer throw champion Lily Talesnick last spring with the Bantams.

Edmondson was also the throws coach for the 2015 IAAF World Outdoor Championships, the Pan American Junior Games in 2008, the IAAF World Track and Field Championships in 2003, and the IAAF World Junior Track and Field Championships in 1998. Edmondson has served as the USATF Olympic Development Co-Coordinator for the women’s hammer throw, and is a past member of both the USATF Athlete's Advisory Committee and of the USATF Women's Track and Field Executive Committee. In addition, she was awarded the USATF President's Award for her contribution in the promotion of the hammer throw on both the national and international levels. Edmondson is a member of the United States Throws Coaches Association, is a USATF Certified Coach, and has conducted numerous clinics at the United States Olympic Training Center.
