Circling the Image

When you are thinking about a book, a photograph, a performance or a sculpture, think about circling the object.

In other words, imagine questions from every  angle you can think of, including from the viewer's standpoint (the setting in which he might view it or the expectations he brings), the art object's standpoint (how it was produced or how its parts were constructed to make a whole statement) and from  the context's standpoint (what was going on in the  world when the object was produced or seen?).

Below, click on different parts of the picture to  circle the image and see sample questions.  You  can click on the background for context, the man  or woman for the viewer and the sculptures for  the art object itself.
