General Thesis Guidelines for Graduating Spanish Majors

 


 

CALENDAR:

Nov. 4-11                     Register for 401 and choose thesis director

Feb 17                          Bring first version of abstract to class with annotated bibliography

Feb 24                          Official day to present abstracts to thesis directors

March 3                         Meeting to discuss abstracts with Spanish section

April 14                         Turn in first complete draft to outside readers

April 21                         Receive comments from outside readers

May 5                           Turn in final bound version to thesis director

 


 

REQUIREMENTS:   While this is very much an individual work to be developed with your thesis director, each thesis must follow the following general requirements:

GRADE:

Your final grade will be determined by your thesis director with input from your second faculty reader.   It will be based on the following distribution: 

 


Appendix A

THESIS-FINAL VERSION 

YOUR THESIS MUST BE BOUND—YOU MAY DO THIS AT CENTRAL SERVICES.

 

 PAGE 1 = Title page (see Appendix B-title page format- at end of this section) Do not number this page.

 PAGE 2/3 = Your revised abstract. The heading should only read ABSTRACTO and be centered at the top of the page. Do not number this/these page/s.

 PAPER = All pages must have consistent font, spacing, and margins. DO include your last name and the page number in the upper right corner of each page and begin with page 1.

 NOTAS

 1.Notes must begin on a NEW page (not continued on the last page of the paper).

 2.The centered heading must read NOTAS.

 3.Use the SAME FONT as your paper.

 4.Double space all notes.

 5.DO include your last name and the page number in the upper right corner of each page following in order after your paper. If you paper ends on Page 40, notes should begin on Page 41.

 6.You MUST follow MLA documentation, and you do not need notes for references with parenthetical documentation in your text.

 7.Try to include as many content notes as possible to refer to books and articles that you have not cited, but that you would like to include in your OBRAS CITADAS.

 

OBRAS CITADAS

1.Your bibliography must begin on a NEW page.

2.The centered heading must read OBRAS CITADAS.

3.Use the SAME FONT as your paper and doublespace all entries.

4.DO include your last name and the page number in the upper right corner of each page following in order after your endnotes.

5.You MUST follow MLA documentation. See our syllabus for general guidelines or use the MLA guideline book available in the Writing Center or the bookstore.

6.Try to include as many books and articles as possible. If you haven’t cited them anywhere, DO NOT include them.

7.DO NOT include an “Obras Consultadas” bibliography.

8.Use content notes to refer to as many texts as possible and include these in your OBRAS CITADAS.
