Language acquisition is a process that requires practice in
order to achieve a greater level of skill. Daily attendance, adequate preparation (a
minimum of 2-3 hours for each class), and active participation are therefore essential.
The daily participation grade will be determined by the following 0-5 scale. In addition,
NO MORE THAN THREE ABSENCES ARE ALLOWED. Each additional absence will result in the
lowering of the final grade by one step (eg. A to A-). Three late arrivals (five minutes
after the beginning of class) will count as one unexcused absence. Please note also that a
positive and respectful attitude in class is important in the evaluation of the
participation grade.
You are responsible for studying grammar points, doing the exercises, readings, activities, etc. All homework listed from Manual de Gramática (ejercicios) must be written in a separate homework notebook, which must be brought to class each day. These notebooks will be collected without notice and at your instructors discretion. Late homework will not be accepted. The grammar component of the course will be heavily based on your work outside of class, and it will also be graded on a 0-5 scale and included in the participation grade. Note: All
exercises from the grammar textbook have their answers in the answer key at the back of
the book. In these cases, you are to complete the exercises FIRST, then correct them using
the answer key. CORRECT WITH A DIFFERENT COLOR PEN, so that it is obvious you followed
instructions. While it may be tempting from time to time just to copy the answers from the
key, you will not be able to gage your progress accurately or prepare for exams. |
