The objective of this course is to improve knowledge and use of grammar, to build a more sophisticated vocabulary, and to develop advanced writing skills. This course will focus on communicative and organizational strategies to improve writing abilities in the Spanish language. It will be taught entirely in Spanish, allowing also for the ongoing development of listening comprehension and verbal skills for students of Spanish. This composition course is intended to strengthen the following elements of redaction: thesis development, sentence and paragraph construction, organizational skills for writing, advanced grammar practice, and creative expression. These areas will be promoted for the development of abilities in description, narration, exposition, analysis and creative writing. Class discussions will be based on assigned readings and activities. In particular, we will complement our writing practice with reading assignments such as short stories and news articles in order to improve reading comprehension and learn stylistic techniques. The content of discussions, readings, and activities will focus on the Hispanic world, including Spain, Latin America, and Hispanic communities in the United States.
