In the foreign language classroom, active and frequent participation in class is an essential part of the course. You will be graded EVERY DAY on your participation on a scale of 0-4.

        0 = absent

        1 = attending but not listening

        2 = attending and listening but unable to participate

        3 = participating only when called upon

        4 = voluntarily participating

These daily points will be added at the end of the semester and compared to the number of points possible for the semester to determine your grade. You will have ONLY 1 FREE ABSENCE that will not count against you to be used in case of an emergency or illness. Please remember that participation is not the same as coming to class, although attendance is the first step. Even if you come to class every day, you can only PASS this component of the course if you participate in SPANISH. Please note also that your attitude and your consideration of fellow students while they are speaking COUNTS toward your participation grade. Please be prepared to make mistakes and learn from them. If you never make any mistakes when you speak, then you need to start challenging yourself more in your oral participation or transfer to a higher level course.
