Each week you will be required to write a reaction to an Internet article from a newspaper
from any Spanish speaking country. You will share your chosen article each Monday with the
class as a brief oral presentation. For weeks when a specific article is not assigned, you
will need to find your own article to bring to class. Each student should search
Mundolatino or other recommended sites and please follow the instructions carefully.
- PLEASE TYPE & DOUBLE SPACE all internet assignments.
- Choose a country and a specific newspaper and INCLUDE this information in your heading.
- Find an article about Latin America and/or Spain in SPANISH and PRINT at least the first
page of the article to attach it to your assignment. If you do not follow these
instructions, there will be a 10% grade reduction.
- Each item should be related to themes concerning politics,
economics, socio-cultural topics, race relations, immigration, indigenous peoples, and/or
relations with the United States.
- NO NEWS BRIEFS WILL BE ACCEPTED. You may NOT choose articles
concerning topics such as the weather, car accidents, arrests, etc, which cannot be
related effectively to culture.
- Your written reaction to the article must be at least 150
words. You must include the name of the newspaper, its country of origin, and the date.
You must also provide a very brief summary of the main idea of the article with your
reaction to it (e.g. why it was of interest to you and whether or not you agree with it).
Please remember to have BOTH the summary AND your reaction.
- HAVE FUN WITH THIS! Remember that while you are browsing for
your article you will be reading a lot of news about current events and learning new
vocabulary in context. So enjoy searching!
