This class focused on the different Latin@ groups that have migrated to the United States. We started with Mexicans, followed by the Puerto Rican migration. We then looked at the migration experience of Cubans and Central Americans. With each group, we compared how their experiences were similar yet different. We also learned about how each group was treated once they had arrived in the United States and the struggles that each group had to go through to survive and be recognized as citizens of this country. Two essays were written on the Puerto Rican and Mexican immigration experience. My final project was with three other people in the class and focused on Puerto Ricans and the middle class in Hartford. The four of us interviewed various Puerto Ricans in the Hartford area who are known for their work and accomplishments with the community.
