Dome of the Rock ( مسجد قبة الصخرة ):

The Dome of the Rock is located in the center of the Temple Mount or Noble Sanctuary (as referred to by Muslims). It is an Islamic shrine built between 687-691 to commemorate Muhammad’s flight into heaven in what is known as Isra and Mi’raj. The prophet supposedly ascended from this spot with the angel Gabriel and even spoke with Moses before returning with new aspects of the Sharia (Islamic law) including the necessity to pray five times a day. The site is also important to Judaism because it is supposedly the spot at which God asked Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac. There is great religious discrepancy here because the Muslims believed that Allah asked Abraham to sacrifice his son Ishmael and that the spot was in Mina, a desert-location.[1] Nonetheless, the location is also religiously significant because it is supposedly the spot where Jacob dreamt of angels climbing up and down a ladder. Furthermore, it is believed to be the place where the Ark of the Covenant (the box that held the Ten Commandments) was situated within the First Temple. Christians appreciate the spot mostly because of Jesus’ use of the Temple located there.
