The reason that I took the Puerto Rican History course with Prof. Figueroa is that I am part Puerto Rican and thought it would be nice to know a bit more aboout the history of my ancestors. The class dealt with a lot of different issues that affected Puerto Rican history and its development but I noticed it placed particular emphasis on one thing, the definition of Puerto Ricanness. This proved to be the best part of the class for me although at times my personal background made it a bit diffecult to talk about. (As you might notice in the Identity Discussion section of this web site)
