In her novel The House on the Lagoon, Rosario Ferré  uses Fictional characters to educate people on certain aspects of Puerto Rican history, primarily the many facets of Puerto Rican Identity. Puerto Ricanness is the history, culture, and national pride felt by people of the island. Through analyzing Ferré’s work I have found two major aspects of Puerto Ricanness which I find to be of particular importnace, language and   race.   These two aspects are very important to consider when analyzing the history of Puerto Rico and it’s people.
