Acid Precipitation Monitoring Project

On the top of Clement Hall we are collecting rain water and snow to measure for acid concentrations as well as major anions such as sulfate and nitrate.  This past semester (Spring 2007), Samantha Dolgoff, a junior environmental science major has collected rain samples and has tracked the concentrations of acid and acid rain forming pollutants.  One notable conclusion is that the concentration of acid, sulfate and nitrate increases when light rain events track across Hartford from
the west.

In the Spring of 2008 Lucy Schiffman and Zephyr Dworsky continued the acid rain project and examined the level of acid, nitrates and sulfates with respect to storm track.  Lucy has continued work through teh Fall of 2008 and is currently working on an interesting project where she tracks storms and plots their trajectory on GIS. These storms can then be linked to acid rain data that is collected here at Trinity.
