ENVS 149L - Pre-Lab assignment for upland forest trees

Before completing this assignment, please read the online material for this week's lab.

This pre-lab is different in that you will use a separate piece of paper and hand it in to me before we head outside to measure the trees surrounding McCook.  We are conducting a long-term tree study to see how trees grow (or not grow) on campus.

Your assignment is to drawn a careful and neat sketch of the trigonometric problem that we will solve to estimate the height of a tree.  In addition the page should include an equation solved for the height of the tree.  Make sure to bring calculator with you that are able to handle simple trig functions.  In the field you will have a tool (inclinometer) that will allow you to estimate angles from a horizontal plane to a point up in the air (i.e. top of  tree).
