History 499
Thesis Seminar
Fall 2005
Gary Reger -- (860) 297-2393
This class is a non-credit course for senior History majors writing a thesis. We meet occasionally across the semester for conversation, presentations, lectures, and discussion of issues interesting to thesis writers. Participation by thesis supervisors and other History faculty in various aspects of the course will form a central component of our activities. This course is NOT a substitute for regular meetings with your thesis supervisor, nor is it designed to provide training in historical research methodology (though we will certainly have occasion to discuss such matters over the course of the semester). Although this seminar carries no credit or grade, regular participation is expected and I will provide a report on your performance to your supervisor (who will be responsible for determining the grade you receive for the two credits assigned to the thesis).
The schedule of classes below will not be completed until I have a full list of thesis writers and supervisors. Until then please regard this syllabus as preliminary only.
