Greek with Yanna

After two sessions (reported on here as Let's Learn Greek and Let's Learn More Greek) at the Athens Centre which took me as far as Greek Level 5, my efforts to fit in one more class at the Centre failed; at first, they couldn't find enough students to organize a Level 6 course, and when they did, I had too many other commitments and the time was bad.

But I didn't want to give up just yet on my Greek, however erratic and sloppy it was, so, after some inquiries, I found a tutor -- Yanna. With Steve and June (the director of the American School and his wife), I set up twice weekly sessions. We haven't met as regularly as I'd hoped, partly because lots of holidays have intervened, partly because I've been traveling a lot. But we have managed to have a few meetings, which have both improved my Greek and given me a still more depressing picture of just how much I have to learn.

Yanna teaches fifth grade in a public school; like so many underpaid school teachers, she supplements her income teaching private lessons not only to unreliable foreigners like me, but also to Greek school kids; and she also teaches regularly at the Athens Centre, where I did so much Greek. She's also one of the authors of 000-000.
