23 : FACULTY MEMBERSHIP IN THE PRESIDENT’S PLANNING AND BUDGET COUNCIL
1:Membership, Election, Tenure
1.1: Four faculty members will be selected from among the faculty to serve, along with the Dean of Faculty, as the faculty voice on the President’s Planning and Budget Council. One of those members shall be selected by the Financial Affairs Committee from its own membership, ordinarily the chair, who shall serve on the PBC for a two year term. The other three members shall be elected by the faculty as part of the general faculty election process in the spring.
1.2: Each member shall serve for a two year term.*
1.3: All four faculty members of the PBC must be tenured. Of the three elected members, one must come from the sciences (including mathematics, engineering, and computer science) one from the arts or humanities, and one from the social sciences.
2:Jurisdiction, Obligations, Procedures
2.1: In addition to attending PBC meetings, the faculty members of the PBC will also attend chairs meetings when those meetings contain agenda items relevant to the work of the PBC, or when they request to meet with chairs and directors. In any case PBC faculty will attend the chairs meeting at least once a semester to report on PBC discussions that are not confidential, and on any recommendations voted by the PBC.
2.1.a: The faculty members of the PBC will also issue a written report to the faculty each year regarding PBC recommendations and other issues of concern to the faculty.
*In the first year, one PBC member will continue from the previous year, and two at-large faculty shall be elected, one for a one-year term and one for a two-year term. Because the new FAC member will also serve a two year term, in subsequent years terms will be staggered with two continuing members each year.
