Days 8 and 9:
Burr Trail - Boulder Mail Trail - Kodachrome Basin
A grumpy looking Steve checking out breakfast at
Cedar Mesa. |
Chamae folding tents. |
Colby packing up the stoves. |
After packing up we went into a hike into Red Rock
Canyon, where we had plenty of opportunity to finish our geologic cross
section of Capitol Reef and look at cool sandstones.
This is what it should have looked like. Some of us came close. |
Then we drove up the Burr Trail into the
Escalante Grand Staircase
National Monument. After a long lunch and nap we got ready for our
hike on the Boulder Mail Trail. |
Eight days
on the road begin to leave their mark on the professor... |
Even the BLM's dire warnings could not scare us,
though we had to hike back to the van twice to pick up forgotten stuff.
We were off to a slow start... |
...but the landscape was awesome. Here we hike across
Navajo sandstone. |
Finally we arrive above
Death Hollow (no joke), where
we set up camp in the evening sun. |
The next morning we explore the area a bit before we
head back to Boulder. |
Crossbeds
