| Waiting for the sunrise. | ||

Believe it or not,
but we're all getting up in the middle of the night to watch the sunrise. We
find some good viewpoints with an unobstructed view to the east, where we
sit, chat and try not to fall asleep again. The cold helps, and some smart
folks have brought their sleeping bags along. The sunrise was nice, but not
spectacular. The petitions for a south rim visit grow in volume. On our way out we push a small VW camper back onto the road and earn ourselves a decent supply of Brazilian coffee. We head on to Cape Royal to catch a glimpse of the Colorado river. After a brief lecture on stratigraphy, angular unconformities and the role of fires in ecosystems we head back North, out of the park, and towards Navajo National Monument. |
