Dr. Morrison chased us out of bed at an ungodly hour and we spent the early morning watching birds at the south end of the Salton Sea. Things got better once we learned how to identify them from the backseat of the van rather than by trudging through the mud flats. We had a nice long breakfast before heading back North through Joshua Tree to spend one last night in the Mojave National Preserve.  The staff was rather unwilling to show us the caves, but we had a great hike up xx canyon, and camped in a rather secluded campsite high up in the mountains. No wind that night. The pines took care of that. No view either, though.
Sketching animal tracks and looking for birds at the Salton Sea.
Birding from the van at 55 mph - that's my way of birding... Geothermal power plant south of the Salton Sea.
Irrigation canal the difference between desert and irrigated fields is stunning. Dirt road at the Salton Sea.
One of Steve's pets. Back in the Mojave desert: bladderbrush... ...and lots of cacti.
Wildlife photographers in training - sure good that this hummingbird did not move for the next ten minutes, so everybody got their shot.
The ghost of Sam preparing dinner. Our last campsite in the Providence Mountains. Mark fixing Salsa and chewing Mango pits.
