ENVS 110 - The Earth's Climate

Answers to 3. homework assignment:

Since you could chose your own city there is no answer key for this assignment, but, aside from the requested graphs,  your solution should have included a discussion of the climate for your city. This discussion should address:

  • seasonality in temperature - is your site in the southern/northern hemisphere, when is it "summer", how does this affect temperatures, how much do temperatures vary over all etc.
  • seasonality in precipitation - how far is your site from the equator, how often and when does the tropical convergence zone pass over your site, can you see this in your climate record?

This should take care of most localities, but there might be some that are not as easily explained,. For these:

  •  "freak" localities: e.g., cities high in the mountains, on small islands etc. may have climates that are not easily explained by the general tropical circulation models. You should have recognized this and attempted an explanation.
