Ingakslugwat Hills, Alaska

The Ingakslugwat Hills are a small volcanic plateau in the Yukon-Kuskowim delta, approximately 80 mi north of Bethel, AK. They contain a couple of crater lakes, most of them quite shallow, and we cored three of them, Tungak Lake, Lake Ernest and Cedarflame Lake.

The map on the left shows the locations of Bethel and our field site.

Below are a few aerial shots taken from the plane.

Our crew consisted of Feng Sheng Hu , Jeff Dorale and myself , who spent a little less than two weeks in a quite comfy camp in the middle of nowhere. Unfortunately it was way too windy and cold for any extensive hiking, but Jeff and I managed to climb one of the craters that dominated the skyline around our campsite.
