Sailing Team Dealt
Dan MacKeigan '95, Sailing Team CaptainThe Trinity Sailing Team was founded by Doug Loutit in the Spring of 1992. The team's first official sail was in a vessel entitled the "Cave." Three seaman strong, Doug
Loutit, Rick Morris, and Dan MacKeigan met to solidify plans to dock at the Pettipaug Yacht Club in Essex, CT. Just one year later with donor support, six 420's were found with a full inventory of sails and gear. Initially practices were few, but so were hardy sailors. Despite the College's lack of support, the desire still drove the building team. Afloat financially by the dues of each sailor, the storm front edged the college campus. Eventually, Trinity College realized the interest and benefits the sailing team brought to the school. Recognition came easily, with the financial struts just recently being heard over the howling winds.
Team voyages are held at Pettipaug Yacht Club in town of Essex, CT. Approximately three days a week, at 2:30pm sea creatures cram into cars and tear down to ocean, returning in time for a hardy supper. After arriving in Essex, sails are cast and all have a good time!
