he west coast has once again had a group raise the stakes in the hip-hop game. The Pharcyde best known for their hit, "Passing Me By," have dropped their second album.
LABCABINCALIFORNIA not only equals their first effort, it elevates to a whole other level of production and lyricism. Full with 16 tracks, The Pharcyde stray from the dry and tired concepts that fill most mediocre albums. Songs like "All Live," "Splatitorium," and "Devil Music" (formerly "My Soul") are nice smooth tracks with thoughtful lyrics to complement. Groupie Therapy, produced by Diamond D. is the east coast contribution and fits in lovely with the vibe of the album. The highlight of the album however, was their first release, "Running." This phat track with a catchy hook has the potential to match "Passing Me By" in terms of commercial success. With most of the production done by members of the group, and everyone representin lyrically, The Pharcyde prove they are a complete group. From start to finish, the album is solid, (you'll be able to leave the remote on the table). It may also leave you thinking that the Pharcyde have dropped the album of '95.
