What Does Trinity Have to Offer?

T he average college student can watch The Wizard of Oz muted while listening to Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon about 15 times before one wonders what the hell else is there to do at college? The general population answers with the local bars. That's great, if your a sloppy alcoholic and need a watering hole every night, but there has to be something better. Well believe it or not Trinity has a slew of events, lectures, gatherings, music.... the list goes on.

Being an inexperienced freshman, I acquired the help of a few upperclassmen, and have compiled a list of what Trinity has to offer. If The Wizard of Oz keeps getting stuck in your VCR, check out the media department in the library. The video library houses the movies that teachers require students to see and also could have a favorite of yours. Trinity's Cinestudio is the only student-run movie theater in the nation. It presents an array of movies throughout the school year showing foreign films to popular movies. Movie Night in the Cave, usually on Wednesday nights, shows popular movie and often has refreshments for you and your friends.

If Dark Side of the Moon is the only CD you own, then Austin Arts Center is the place to be. It houses the library's Sound Recording Collection and offers art openings, music concerts, recitals, plays... you get the idea. Live music is also really popular on campus. The Bistro has Jazz night on Wednesdays and live music on Thursdays. Proper ID is required when alcohol is being served. The Underground Coffee House also has live acts and they are usually posted around campus.

If there's one academic aspect that teachers can't stress enough are the centers. These include The Writing Center located on Vernon Street. It's staffed with students that are dying to get a hold of your papers. The critiques and commentary can give you the insight to better your writing. The Math Center, located in MCEC, can answer Math 101 questions to calculus analysis. The Computer Center, also located in MCEC, allows students who don't have computers and the kids whose printers don't work the opportunity type that paper.

Trinity College has so much to offer that they published a book about it!!! It's the Student Handbook and I wish I could have listed everything, but they've already done the work. So next time you're listening to WRTC 89.3 (Trinity College radio) pick up the student handbook. It can do a lot more than take up another spot on your bookshelve.
