The Presidents' Forum

The Presidents' Forum

SETTING THE TONE:

Student Activism, Community
and Presidential Leadership

October 2-3, 2016

Trinity College

Hartford, Connecticut

This past year student protests on campuses throughout the nation have brought to the forefront concerns that have simmered beneath the surface for some time. In response, Joanne Berger-Sweeney, President of Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, in collaboration with the Consortium on High Achievement and Success, has invited more than 40 fellow college presidents to engage in a collective examination of the leadership role presidents play in relationship to the questions raised by their students. The theme of the conference is Setting the Tone: Student Activism, Community and Presidential Leadership.

The goal of the Forum is to give presidents a chance to network, gather information, and reflect.  Presidents will benefit by setting aside time to consider how to receive and address the expectations and aspirations of the newest generation of college students while, at the same time, protecting what is best in the liberal arts college tradition.

We hope presidents will take away a set of concrete strategies to transform moments of crisis into opportunities to accomplish meaningful and much needed change.
