Although the loss of last season’s co-captain Olga Bogatyrenko will be felt, Trinity should build on a fine 2000-01 season. Under the direction of Head Coach Wendy Bartlett (18th season, 116-71), this year’s squad returns a pool of talented players who have NCAA Championship appearance under their belts.
Senior co-captain Rebekah Mate return as one of the team's top players for the fourth year in a row, after compiling a 14-6 singles record last year and a 28-23 mark in her career.
NESCAC Rookie of the Year Diana Goldman is also back, and should give the Bantams a top player in the No. 1 position. Goldman led Trinity with 16 wins (16-8) and earned All-NESCAC honors on her way to an NCAA Division III Individual Championships bid. Sophomore Sarah Krueger is the other sophomore among the top returners, after enjoying a productive freshman season.
Junior veterans Courtney Sargeant, the team’s other co-captain, and Karen Huebner provide depth and talent in singles and doubles. Sargeant teams with Mate last year and Huebner joins Goldman to form two of the best doubles tandems in the NESCAC in 2001-02. Classmates Aimee Hecht, Kingsley Lynch, and Victoria Miller will vie for the remaining starting spot with a group of promising freshman prospects.
The team is optimistic about the 2001-02 season, as the focus continues to move toward the spring season. The team will play a full slate of matches in both the fall and the spring, including its annual spring trip to Hilton Head, SC, in March, as it prepares for the NESCAC Championships in late April and a return trip to the NCAA Tournament in May.
