TRINITY WOMEN’S SQUASH
GETS PAST SECOND RANKED YALE

Hartford, Conn. - Sophomore Lynn Leong (Kota Bharu. Malaysia) won a 3-0 match at No. 2 to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 7-2 win over the visiting Yale University Bulldogs in women’s squash action this evening at George A. Kellner Squash Center. Trinity, ranked No. 1 in the nation, improves to 6-0 for the season and extends its winning streak to 17 matches. Yale, ranked No. 2 in the nation, falls to 4-1.

Leong, the No. 2-ranked player in the nation, and freshman Maria Restrepo (Medellin, Colombia) won 3-0 decisions at No. 2 and No. 4 to counter a 3-0 triumph by Yale senior Gina Wilkerson (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) at No. 6 and give Trinity an early 2-1 lead. At No. 8, Bantam sophomore Bronwyn Cooper (Harare, Zimbabwe) recovered from a 9-2 loss in the fourth game to take the fifth and deciding game, 9-6, against Yale sophomore Lauren Doline (Pottersville, N.J.) and give Trinity a 3-1 advantage after the first round of matches.

The match was decided soon after the second round of players began their matches, as Trinity junior Pamela Saunders (Harare, Zimbabwe) recorded a 3-0 win at No. 5 and freshman Larissa Stephenson (Auckland, New Zealand) won, 3-1, at No. 3 against Yale sophomore Frances Ho (Hong Kong), who is ranked as the No. 6 player in the nation, to give Trinity the five wins it needed to remain undefeated.

Yale freshman Michell Quibell (Atlanta, Ga.) eked out a 3-2 win against the nation’s top-ranked player, Amina Helal (Manchester, England) in the No. 1 match. Quibell trailed, 2-1, before winning the fourth game, 9-3, and edging Helal in the fifth game by a score of 10-8. Bantam freshman Margot Kearney (Rye, N.Y.) lost one game, 9-0, but came back to win the fifth game by the same score to take the No. 9 match. Trinity freshman Rhea Bhandare (Bombay, India) accounted for the seventh Trinity point with a 3-0 triumph at the No. 7 position.
