New Haven, Conn. – Junior co-captain Amina Helal (Manchester, England) downed the No. 2-ranked player in the nation, 3-1, at the No. 1 position to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 9-0 win over the University of Pennsylvania Quakers in the semifinal round of the College Squash Association (CSA) National Team Championships (Howe Cup) this afternoon at Yale University. Trinity, ranked No. 1 in the nation, improves to 13-0 and extends its winning streak to 24 matches. The Quakers drop to 10-4 and will face Harvard in a third-place match tomorrow.
The Bantams, seeded No. 1 in the tournament field, won seven matches by 3-0 scores over the No. 5-seeded Quakers. Trinty will face No. 3-seeded Yale in New Haven, which downed No.2-seeded Harvard, 8-1, in the other semi-final match. Helal, the top-ranked player in the nation, had split two previous matches against Quaker senior Runa Reta (Ottawa, Ontario) during the regular season.
