TRINITY WOMEN’S SOCCER TIES AMHERST,
EARNS POSTSEASON BERTH

Hartford, Conn. - Sophomore goalie Brenna Shields (Cutchogue, N.Y.) made 11 saves over 110 minutes to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 1-1 tie against the visiting Amherst College Lady Jeffs in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's soccer action this afternoon.

Trinity finishes the regular season with a 7-5-2 overall record, its best mark since 1994, and a 3-4-2 record in the NESCAC, while the Jeffs finish at 8-4-2 overall and 5-2-2 in the league. The Bantams, who qualified for a second straight league championship tournament as the No. 7 seed, will play in the first round of the tourney tomorrow at No. 2-seeded Bowdoin at noon. No. 3 Williams hosts No. 6 Middlebury and No. 4 Amherst hosts No. 5 Connecticut College in other first round games tomorrow. Tufts earned the top seed with a 6-2-1 league mark, receives a bye to the semi-final round, and will host the semi-final and final rounds next weekend.

Sophomore forward Nicole Mauger (East Bridgewater, Mass.) scored the lone goal for Trinity and was assisted by junior Courtney Doyle (West Simsbury, Conn.). Sophomore midfielder Ashley Harmeling (North Reading , Mass.) scored the only goal for the Lord Jeffs, while senior co-captain Brooke Diamond (Longmeadow, Mass.) stopped five shots for Amherst in goal.
