DOYLE GOAL GIVES TRINITY WOMEN’S
SOCCER WIN OVER SMITH

Hartford, Conn. - Sophomore forward Courtney Doyle (West Simsbury, Conn.) scored the game-winning goal with 23:12 remaining in the game to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 2-1 victory over the visiting Smith College Pioneers in women’s soccer action this afternoon. Trinity improves to 4-4 with its third in win in the last four games. Smith dips to 5-3-2.

After a scoreless first half, played predominantly in Smith’s half of the field, Trinity opened the scoring on the first career goal for freshman midfielder Leah Felis (Stowe, Vt.) in the 57th minute. Trinity senior tri-captain back Anna Sullivan (Bridgewater, Vt.) lobbed the ball over the Smith defense and Felis ran it down, poking it past Smith senior tri-captain goalie Elisabeth Sandoe (Lebanon, N.H.).

Smith tied the score at the 65:11 mark on a goal by freshman forward Abigail Larimer (New Orleans, La.), but Doyle lofted a shot from 40 yards out on the left sideline that found the right corner of the goal just 1:37 later.

Trinity outshot the Pioneers, 27-5, although Smith had two scoring opportunities late in the second half on corner kicks but failed to find the net. Bantam senior tri-captain Sarah Bradley (Mansfield, Conn.) made Trinity’s two saves over the first 70 minutes before yielding to freshman goalie Brenna Shields (Cutchogue, N.Y.). Sandoe stopped 13 shots for Smith.
