ECSU WOMEN’S SOCCER DEFEATS
TRINITY IN OVERTIME
Hartford, Conn. - Eastern Connecticut sophomore midfielder Brianne Vernam (Medford, N.Y.) scored the game winning goal in the 118th minute of play to lead the visiting Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors to a 2-1 o vertime victory over the Trinity College Bantams in women’s soccer action this afternoon. Trinity falls to 0-1 with the season-opening defeat, while the Warriors improve to a perfect 4-0.
At the 118:38 mark of the game, Eastern Connecticut senior Julia Neilson (Salisbury, Conn.) sent a beautiful through-ball to Vernam who proceeded to ricochet the game-winning shot off the crossbar and into the goal for ther second score of the day.
The Trinity goal came at the 57:14 mark by sophomore forward Courtney Doyle (West Simsbury, Conn.) on an assists by freshman forward Nicole Mauger (East Bridgewater, Mass.).
Freshman Brenna Shields (Cutchogue, N.Y.), playing in her first collegiate game, made eight saves between the posts. Sophomore Stacey Schofield (Woodstock, Conn.) tallied six saves for the Warriors.
